At Georgia Optometry Group, we are committed to quality eye care in a pleasant family friendly atmosphere. Georgia Optometry is a five-location, private group optometric practice. Our practice has been serving the Atlanta area for over 33 years. We are conveniently located in Dunwoody, Stone Mountain, Morrow, Douglasville and Kennesaw. We practice primary care optometry in all locations specializing in eyeglasses, contact lenses, ocular disease detection and treatment. Immediate care is available for eye care emergencies. We offer same day service for many contact lenses and cater to hard to fit cases.

Dr. Gary Pence
Dr. Gary Pence, President of Georgia Optometry Group, attended Michigan State University graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Science. Dr. Pence attended Michigan College of Optometry, graduating Doctor of Optometry, magna cum laude, in 1991. Dr. Pence specializes in family practice optometry and hard to fit contacts. He is married with four children and enjoys travel, biking, golf and gardening.
Dr. Mary Brunner
Dr. Mary Brunner attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in natural science and mathematics. Her education continued at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry where she received her doctorate of optometry followed by a primary care residency with an emphasis in ocular disease at the Southern College of Optometry. She served as faculty at Southern College of Optometry as a clinical instructor as well as the director of the Shelby County Hospital optometric clinic in Memphis, Tennessee. She returned to Georgia to join Hunter Eye Care which has now become Georgia Optometric Group and is the managing doctor of the Kennesaw office. Away from the office, Dr. Brunner enjoys spending time with her husband and four children.
Dr. Dale Anderson
Dr. Dale Anderson is a native of Georgia. He attended the University of Georgia before receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiological Optics from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He also received his Doctor of Optometry from UAB. Dr Anderson began his optometry career back in Georgia with Hunter Eye Care Group which would later become Georgia Optometry Group Associates. He has worked at each of the practice’s locations, but now serves as the managing doctor at the Southlake location in Morrow. Dr Anderson, his wife and two sons are all avid campers, paddlers and snorkelers. Dr Anderson is a life member of the National Eagle Scout Association and Woodbadge course director. Dr Anderson has received the Silver Beaver award as well as the Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow.
Dr. Michael Richards
Dr. Michael Richards graduated with honors from West Georgia College, with a B.A. in Biology/Chemistry. He attended graduate school at The University of Georgia in microbiology. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree from Southern College of Optometry in 1985. While in optometry school, he was a member of Sigma Alpha Sigma and Beta Sigma Kappa honor societies. Dr. Richards entered practice with Georgia Optometry Group (formerly Hunter Eyecare) in 1987. Dr. Richards is a native of Douglas County, is married and has one son. He enjoys all family activities with his wife and son including motorcycles, dirt biking, bicycling, all forms of racing and sports.
Dr. Sharon Kelly Ellis
Dr. Sharon Kelly Ellis graduated with honors from SUNY Stony Brook with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences, then simultaneously completed a Master of Science in Vision Science and Doctor of Optometry degree from SUNY College of Optometry in 1991. She joined Georgia Optometry Group (formerly Hunter Eye Care Group) in September 1991. Dr. Ellis has been the managing doctor for the Stone Mountain location since October 2000. She married a Georgia native and has one stepson. In her spare time, Dr Ellis hosts charity car shows and enjoys visits to Stone Mountain Park and the beach (any beach).
Dr. Kelly Nelson Spetalnick
Dr. Kelly Nelson Spetalnick graduated from the University of Alabama-Birmingham School of Optometry in 1986 and moved to Atlanta where she joined this practice and has since remained which has given her long term patient relationships. She enjoys all aspects of general practice and the range of care from routine eye evaluations to personalizing contact lens options and treating ocular disease. Outside of the office, she enjoys time with her husband, Tom, her grown kids and friends, reading, hiking, cooking, gardening, tennis and just about anything outdoors. Since moving to part time practice, she has enjoyed working with many non-profits, especially her work on the board of interfaith Outreach Home. Her goal is to listen with compassion and offer the highest quality eye care with a personal touch.
